Efforts to keep businesses in Kilrush and to create much needed employment could get underway within months with the start of a regeneration project for the main shopping district of the town.
Kilrush Town Council is planning to offer grants to restore and renovate vacant or derelict premises in the Moore Street area of the West Clare town, in response to increasing concerns about declining trade and business closures.
The new Retail Incentive Scheme would offer grants covering up to half the cost of refurbishing run-down businesses and could be rolled out from later this summer.
