Report Flags Infection Control Concerns In UL Hospitals Group

The health watchdog says “immediate” action is needed to tackle potential issues with infections at University Hospital Limerick.

A HIQA report, submitted last month to the National Public Health Emergency Team and outlined in today’s Irish Times, is particularly critical of both the UL Hospital Group and the South Southwest Hospital Group.

For this region, it warns that there was already a “potential for overcrowding” before the pandemic, and after a self-assessment, stated that the hospital group was unable to provide necessary assurances.

It also states that while all other hospital groups received extra infection control staff, the UL Hospitals Group reported receiving none.
