Report Says UHL ‘Partially Compliant’ In Providing Environment Minimising Infection Spread During Pandemic

The region’s main hospital has been found to be only partially compliant in providing healthcare in a clean and safe environment that minimised the risk of infection spreading during the pandemic.

A new report from HIQA reveals University Hospital Limerick was also just partially compliant in having a system in place to control infection outbreaks in a timely and effective manner.

UHL was found to be compliant in areas of governance and risk management, and substantially compliant in planning, organisation and equipment maintenance.

The overall report found the Irish healthcare system adapted swiftly to cope with COVID-19, but many facilities were hindered by poor infrastructure and capacity issues.

HIQA’s Head of Healthcare, Sean Egan says some facilities fell short of certain standards.
