The research published in the British Medical Journal found that consuming one alcoholic drink a day increases the risk of developing liver, bowel and breast cancer.

Of the eight countries included in the study over 80 percent of upper digestive tract, liver bowel and breast cancer cases in women were due to drinking more than one unit of alcohol daily while half of the 33 thousand cases were caused by drinking two units a day.
