Restaurateurs warns of job losses if VAT increases

The Restaurants Association of Ireland says workers’ hours will be cut, if the Government increases the tourism industry’s special nine per cent VAT rate.

The rate was introduced in 2011 – and since then, the RAI says 6,500 jobs have been created in the sector.

Chief Executive Adrian Cummins says maintaining the VAT rate would be good news for the consumer, as the cost of eating out would remain the same.

And he says any move to increase the rate would have a negative impact on workers:
