Restrictive Signage For Whiskey Distilleries Branded ‘A Bizarre Move’

A Clare whiskey producer has labelled new rules to restrict directional signage for distilleries at bus stops as a bizarre move.

A clause in the Public Health Alcohol Bill would mean that such signs would be illegal close to schools and, more concerning for tourist areas, public transport stops.

Research this week from the Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland found that the country’s breweries and distilleries attracted 2.5 million visitors last year alone.

Louise McGuane runs The Chapel Gate Irish Whiskey Company in Cooraclare and will be opening a visitor centre there next year.
