Retail Ireland call for Dublin flag protest to be cancelled

One of the organisers of the flag protest in Dublin on Saturday, Willie Frazer, says he is meeting Gardaí this afternoon to discuss the issue – but as far as he is concerned, the demonstration will go ahead.

Retail Ireland has called for the protest to be cancelled and has written to the Garda Commissioner, setting out its opposition.

The Union Flag is raised above City Hall in Belfast today to mark the birthday of Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge.

But weeks of protest have resulted in a nightly battles between police and demonstrators in Belfast – over 100 arrests have been made since the trouble began.

Willie Frazer of the Ulster People’s Forum says they have not been asked to call Saturday’s protest off.
