Tributes have been paid to the co-founder of one of Clare’s largest employers, following his retirement.
Dr. Mike Byrne had worked for EI Electronics as its Head of Research and Development for 44 years.

In 1988, he was part of a management buyout of EI from General Electric, and before that he had been credited with the development of their first smoke alarms.
Today Ei Electronics employs over 1,000 people worldwide, with over 900 at its Headquarters in Shannon
