The number of marriages taking place in Clare is on the rise.
Figures from the CSO show that 620 couples tied the knot here in 2007, with many travelling from outside the county to hold their special occasion here.
The latest figures from the CSO show that the number of marriages in Ireland is on the rise, up to 22756 natinoally.
Clare recorded a larger jump in the number of marriages since the last detailed figures were recorded in 2004: up to 620 from 427.
There has also been a rise in the average ages of those who get married – Clare men who get married average at 33.9 years, wheras their brides have an average age of 31.6
it’s also been revealed that even though one quarter of all marriages nationwide were were civil ceremonies, none of these marriages took place in Clare, the only county in Munster where this was the case.
However, it was late in 2007 before the number of venues for this type of ceremony was expanded.
The figures also reveal that a number of couples have come from outside the county to get married in Clare – while 570 Clare men and 594 Clare women married in this year, a total of 620 weddings were held in the Banner coutny.
