There's devastation in Clarecastle this evening following confirmation that a deal on the sale of Roche has fallen through.
It was hoped that a positive announcement would be made at a major site meeting this afternoon but workers have now been informed that operations will cease as planned before 2019.
Workers were informed this afternoon that following rigorous examination, negotiations for the transfer of the Clarecastle manufacturing site to a global pharma services company have ended without an agreement.
Roche has confirmed that as a result, production at the Clarecastle plant will cease as planned on a phased basis between 2018 and 2019.
In a statement to Clare FM, Roche says it will now "enter into formal consultation with employees and their representatives".
The pharmaceutical company inists that its "committed to acting fairly and equitably with all employees and to providing necessary and appropriate support".
