Freezing temperatures overnight have again caused extremely hazardous conditions on the roads this morning.
Secondary routes and sheltered areas across the county, particularly in North, West and East Clare are the worst affected by the cold snap with freezing fog and icy stretches in many areas.
Senior Clare Road Engineers are warning that the ongoing freeze is seriously impacting on their resources of salt stocks.
Gritting of all the main regional roads around the county is ongoing as a priority but the local authority says it simply can’t stretch to cover every back road hit by the icy conditions.
Senior Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan says crews will be out over the Christmas if needed but that gritting resources have to be monitored closely
