Schultz warns of difficulties ahead

The EU Parliament President has warned Ireland about the difficulties posed by the EU Presidency.

Martin Schultz says Ireland will face a major challenge in trying to facilitate a deal on the seven-year EU Budget – saying it would be disastrous for the continent if no agreement is reached.

Ireland assumed the Presidency for the seventh time today – after a flag-raising ceremony at Dublin Castle yesterday.

Around 180 meetings will be held in Dublin during the six months, including meetings of the EU finance ministers, and foreign affairs ministers.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny says it’s an honour for the country.
