Sea Search off West Coast resumes

Emergency services search for missing fisherman off West Clare Coast.

The operation which is being co-ordinated by Valentia Coastguard involves Kilrush RNLI, Kilkee Coast Guard Unit, Kilkee inshore life boat, Kilkee Cliff Rescue, Doolin Coastguard and the Shannon Coastguard Helicopter.

The missing man, originally from Poland but who had been living in Nenagh, was fishing with friends from rocks at Ross Bay, 5 kilometres from Loop Head, at around half three yesterday afternoon, when he was caught by the waves and swept into the sea.

His friends attempted to rescue him from the water but the man in his 20’s was pulled out by the current.

Crew from the Kilrush RNLI were at the scene within minutes as they had been attending the traditional blessing of the boats at the Old Marina in Kilrush at the time.

The Shannon Coastguard Helicopter as well as rescue services from Kilkee were also involved in the detailed search for the fisherman for several hours before it was called off.

Emergency services are on standby this morning and are due to take to the water after 11 o’ clock, ahead of low tide.
