Emergency services were alerted shortly before ten o'clock last night after a car belonging to the 27-year-old man from Lahinch was discovered at the entrance to the cliffs.
Searches involving the Shannon – based Irish Coast Guard helpicopter, Rescue 115 have been taking place last night and this morning, but sea-based searches have been hampered by weather conditions.
Superintendent John Galvin is appealing to members of the public who may be able to assist with their inquiries to come forward.
