The man, believed to be in his early 20s, failed to return to the tour bus on which he had been travelling, after it stopped at Ballyreen yesterday afternoon.
Doolin Coast Guard is coordinating the search which also involves members of Civil Defence and local volunteers.
They're currently combing an area from Black Head towards Doolin.
The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter carried out sweeps along the coastline yesterday and is expected to re-joining the search later.
