Senior Gardaí in West Clare say the majority of those involved in criminal activity that officers have targeted are either before the courts or behind bars.
Superintendent Gerry Wall’s comments come following claims that "law and order had broken down in the area and crime was actually on the rise.

However speaking at Clare County Council’s Joint Policing Committee he disputed this, stating that figures for Kilrush in particular in the month of July are on a par with other similar areas nationwide.
Superintendent Wall also pointed out that his officers set up over 114 checkpoints last month and carried out over 400 drug searches with much success
