A senior figure in the reconfiguration of healthcare in the MidWest has made a direct appeal to government for more funding.
Paul Burke, the clinical lead for the reconfiguration of surgery, was addressing an event at University Hospital Limerick which was attended by the Health and Finance Ministers.

There, Minister Leo Varadkar insisted there was no way that the new Emergency Department at the hospital could be sped up though he insisted it would open next year.
Professor Burke says there cannot be any delays.
