Sentence due in petrol attack case

An Ennis woman is due to be sentenced today for assaulting her father along with a young mother and her toddler.

26 year old Majella Mc McCarthy was found guilty of the charges last week arising from an incident on the 4th of March at Spanish Point Road in Miltown Malbay.

26 year old Majella Mc McCarthy was found guilty of the charges last week arising from an incident on the 4th of March at Spanish Point Road in Miltown Malbay.

Last Wednesday at Ennis Circuit court a jury took just 35 minutes of deliberations to find the 26 year old of he Galway Road in Ennis guilty of pouring petrol over her father and then Cree woman Mary Kelly and her 18 month old baby girl who were parked in a car outside the home of Majella Mc McCarthy’s parents.

The mother and child were unknown to Ms Mc McCarthy and in her victim impact Mary Kelly told court she cannot allow her children out of her sight since, added that she was afraid they would be in the wrong place at the wrong time again.
 
The court also heard that the 26 year old had a history of psychiatric illness since 1999, left school after her junior cert and psychiatric services had diagnosed her as having a personality disorder.

Judge Sean O’Donneabhain adjourned sentencing until today
