Several Hospitalised Following Separate Crashes On Clare Roads

A number of people have been taken to hospital following separate road crashes in Clare yesterday.

The first collision happened on the N67 between Ennistymon and Lahinch, while a number of hours later, four cars were involved in separate crashes on the M18 motorway near Crusheen.

The first crash occurred on the N67 between Ennistymon and Lahinch, around 4.30 yesterday afternoon when a car and van collided close to what’s known locally as the Hospital Cross.

Emergency services were alerted and three people were taken to University Hospital Limerick where they were treated for their injuries, which are not believed to be serious.

Later, four cars were involved in separate accidents on the M18 between Crusheen and Gort, during poor weather conditions.

The incidents happened within moments of each on the same stretch of the M18, but on opposite sides of the motorway.

Two cars spun out of control on the southbound carriageway while the other two crashed in the northbound lanes. It’s understood the vehicles lost control following a downpour of hailstones.

Gardaí and fire crews from Gort and Ennis along with four ambulances attended the incidents. The occupants of all vehicles were assessed at the scene and found to be uninjured.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are advising motorists to drive with care in West Clare this morning following flash flooding yesterday.

A number of areas in Kilkee, Labasheeda and Kilnamona, and parts of the Ennis Road in Miltown Malbay became submerged for a time as Storm Ewan battered the county.

Gardaí say the flood waters have receded in most areas, but are urging people to continue to drive with care, due to a risk of localised flooding following heavy rain overnight and snow this morning.
