Around 500 workers at Shannon Aerospace are to be balloted for industrial action as part of their row over the company’s pension arrangements.
The aviation maintenance firm has told staff it intends to cease contributions to their pension scheme from Monday, even though it is not in deficit.

Workers have opposed the move, and rejected a Labour Court recommendation that the status quo remain for two months to allow for negotiations.
It’s understood the SIPTU ballot will begin next Friday.
