The outgoing boss of Shannon Airport says its independence has led to the creation of over 1,000 jobs.

Neil Pakey's three-year term as head of the state-owned Shannon Group has come to an end, following the announcemnet late last December that his contract would not be renewed.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Mr. Pakey has revealed details of an unpublished report by York Aviation consultants, which shows the benefits of Shannon's separation from the DAA.

According to the paper, growth at the Airport over the past three years delivered 105 million euro to the Irish economy, including 60 million to the group's hinterland, as well as the creation of 1,070 jobs.
