Shannon Airport Launches New Service To Scotland

Shannon Airport says it has achieved one of its key goals following the launch of a new service to Scotland.

The Aer Lingus Regional service, operated by Stobart Air, will see six flights a week to Edinburgh on a year-round service.

The return of the Shannon-Edinburgh service will see flights to the Scottish Capital each day excluding Saturday on a year-round basis.

Renowned for its architecture, historic castle and world class arts festivals, Edinburgh is one of Europe’s most popular weekend destinations, and was one of the most requested services from Shannon last year.

The service was pulled in January last year despite increased passenger numbers, with operators Stobart Air saying at the time that it didn't fit with their strategic plan.

They've now brought it back, and it's hoped thiss will bring an additional 35,000 people through Shannon this year, rising to 45,000 every year from 2017.
