The runway at Shanon Airport is accustomed to being busy 24 hours a day – but tonight it will have a different kind of traffic on the tarmacadam.
1,200 people have signed up to take part in the Run on the Runway event in aid of the Clare Smaritans.

The runway will close to planes for three hours for the event a first of its kind to be held in Ireland.
With a fee of 20 euro per person the Samaritans is set to receive several thousand euro from the event.
