Shannon recorded largest 2011 growth of DAA Group
Almost 20,000 flights flew from or landed at Shannon last year, though this marks a decrease of over 40% since 2008.
Air traffic levels in Ireland grew marginally last year, though the biggest growth came at Clare’s international airport.
Shannon recorded 19,275 commercial terminal flights in 2011, up 2.7% on 2010.
This compares to a rise of just 0.6% in Dublin, and a 6.2% drop at Cork.
The figures from the IAA do highlight the extent of the drop-off on peak travel levels at Shannon however – 2008 saw an extra 42% of flights at the Midwest airport, with the reduction being significantly higher than the national average.
Meanwhile, flights served by the IAA’s North Atlantic Communications Centre at Ballygirreen, Newmarket-on-Fergus in 2011 totalled over 403 thousand, an annual rise of 3.7%
