Clare's international airport added 125,000 passengers in 2015, bringing the total number passing through its doors to 1.68 million.
This is just under 400,000 less than at Cork, but the gap at the end of 2014 was over 580,000.
Shannon has welcomed the announcement of new routes there by Lufthansa, SAS and Norwegian Airlines, while this Christmas officials there reported a five per cent increase in passengers over the festive period.
Today, a spokesman on behalf of the daa has made contact with Clare FM to say Cork has added 150,000 passerngers in 2016.
