Shannon Councillor Claims Demand For Social Housing Remains Biggest Concern

A Shannon Councillor claims the demand for social housing remains the biggest concern among people who contact him for help. 

There are currently some 300 families on the waiting list for housing in the Shannon area alone, with a total of around 4000 county wide.

Mike McKee says any new government needs to realise that the accomodation crisis is the number one issue they'll face and a comprehensive strategy is needed to tackle it. 

The Sinn Fein representative says the extension of the Housing Assistance Payment and Rent Allowance is one immediate measure that could be taken to easy the pressure on families.
