Shannon Gets Olympic Visitor

Finally for now, and less than three months until it will be used to light the iconic flame in London, the Olympic torch has made an unscheduled trip to County Clare.

The torch was being flown from the US to London yesterday, when the British Airways plane on which it was travelling was forced to make an unscheduled refuelling stopover at Shanonn Airport.

The torch will return to Ireland in June, travelling to Belfast and Dublin when it will be carried by the likes of Paul McGrath, Michael Curruth and Jedward.

However, Gort woman Natasha Naughton-O’Keeffe got there before them all last evening, when she held the iconic object during a security check.
