A contract to build 22 council houses in Shannon has been terminated due to stalled works on the site.
Clare County Council has ended its agreement with Paddy Burke Builders Limited for the completion of the Glaise na Rinne Affordable Housing Scheme in Shannon for the contractor’s failure to comply with the terms of the contract.
16 affordable houses and 6 step down houses for the elderly have been left unfinished as a result, and the council is now arranging security for the unoccupied site as well as seeking a new contractor to complete the development by Spring 2011
Shannon Councillor Gerry Flynn hopes the development bond in place will ensure the project can be finished, given the high numbers of applicants on the local housing list.
