Shannon management defend charges after Ryanair cuts

Management at Shannon Airport is defending its increased charges, as pressure mounts on the airport authority to outline it’s plans to counteract further route losses in the mid-west.

Ryanair’s decision to end Paris services and reduce flight frequencies to Stansted and Gatwick Airports in London is being blamed on the extra 1.58 added to passenger charges last month and has prompted further question regarding plans for the struggling airport.

In a statement to Clare FM, management at Shannon airport says their "modest passenger charges increase"  was essential to enable the airport commercially deliver a high quality, safe service at for passengers at Shannon, and expressed regret at the loss of Ryanair services.

Ryanair Boss Michael O’Leary hit out at Shannon management though accusing them of leaving the airport "dying on it’s feet".

Speaking to Clare FM, he rejected claims that his demands at Shannon were unreasonable or that he was there to criticise the airport simply because of failed negotiations.
