Shannon schools express concern over patronage plans

Shannon schools have expressed concerns over proposals to strip them of their Catholic ethos.

9 Church run schools in Clare’ second town, Newmarket on Fergus and Clonmoney face the prospect of having their current patronage replaced with a non- denominational set up.

Its all part of the Education Minister’s move to reduce church dominance in primary education and parents have been asked to have their say in an online survey – which closes this evening.

Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus Rurai Quinn insists its not unreasonable to have at least one non religious national school in Shannon –

However Mary Dunlee Fitzgerald – Principal of St Tola’s fears it could have a very negative impact on schools and  pupils
