Shannon Set For Jobs Boost

Shannon is set for a jobs boost, with confirmation that around twenty new staff are to be hired by the country’s largest indigenous employer.

E.I. Electronics is a leading Fire Safety Products developer and manufacturer in the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Netherlands as well as Ireland.  430 staff are employed at it’s Shannon base, as well as 50 others internationally, and the company already contribues around 30 million euro to the local economy each year.

This contribution is set to grow in the coming months however, as the firm’s chairman and chief executive Mick Guinee confirms plans to expand it’s total workforce to 500 by the end of this year, with 15 of those positions located here in Clare.

E.I. was initially set-up in Clare by General Electric in 1963, and will celebrate it’s fiftieth years of trade here with an event this Sunday.  It’s estimated that a total of around 16,000 people have worked for the company during it’s lifetime.
