Shannon’s Outgoing Senator Loses Seat In Seanad Election

Shannon's outgoing Fine Gael Senator has failed to retain his seat in the Seanad election.

Tony Mulcahy, who's career in politics has spanned over twenty years, was eliminated in the 6th count for the Labour Panel last evening, having received a vote multiple of 30,000.

It follows the elimination of his party colleague Mary Howard on Monday and Fianna Fáil's Pat Hayes yesterday, though the Maghera Councillor said he wasn't campaigning.

The prospect of a Clare representative in the upper chamber of the Oireachtas is now lessening.

Counting continues today in the Industrial panel for which Sixmilebridge Councillor John Crowe and President of Ógra Fianna Fáil, Ennisman Eoin Neylon are nominated, while tomorrow outgoing Senator Martin Conway will learn his fate.
