Lying Eyes Sharon Collins will find out whether her appeal for hiring a hitman to kill three Ennis businessmen has been successful today.
The 47 year old mother of two from the Kildysart Road in Ennis, was sentenced to six years in prison in 2008 for soliciting a Las Vegas Poker dealer to kill her partner PJ Howard and his sons Robert and Niall.
Ms Collins has now served almost three years in prison, and has been waiting over 18 months to learn the outcome of her appeal against her conviction.
At Sharon Collins’ appeal in March 2010 – three charges of conspiracy to murder her partner – Ennis businessman – PJ Howard and his sons were overturned, but judgement was reserved on three separate counts of hiring a Las Vegas Poker dealer – Essam Eid to carry out the killings.
The 32 day trial sent shock waves across Ireland in 2008 with counsel for the DPP comparing the case to a "cheap thriller" as details of a bizarre internet plot to kill the Howards and claim their multi million euro property empire emerged in court.
The Ennis mother of two always protested her innocence, and her partner PJ Howard spoke at her sentence hearing asking the judge not to send her to jail.
Essam Eid was released in April of this year but was extradited to the United states to face other charges – today his unlikely Co-accused Sharon Collins will learn the outcome of her appeal, which could see her walk free – or return to Mountjoy women’s prison to continue her sentence.
