Shannon Airport will be at the centre of a major emergency today -but its all in the name of safety.
Fire Fighters, Gardaí, ambulance staff as well as airport workers will all take part in a simulated disaster to ensure they’re fully prepared in the event of a real life crisis.
All state agencies tasked with responding to an emergency at Shannon Airport will be put through their paces today when a major Emergency Exercise will take place at the airport.
The exercise will involve responses from the various emergency services to an aviation disaster at Shannon Airport.
Shannon Airport Director Martin Moroney says the exercise is essential to ensure that in the event of an actual disaster , the coordinated responses of all the emergency services would be fully tested for any actuality.
This specially simulated crisis takes place every two years as part of Shannon Airport’s licence and is in addition to the daily training regimes conducted on site which Martin Moroney says ensures they maintain the highest standards of safety at the airport in the best interests of airlines, passengers and staff.
