Six Same Sex Marriages In Clare In 2016

A total of six same sex couples got married in Clare last year.

The number is among the lowest of any county in Ireland, but newly-released figures show the Banner County still remains a popular spot for weddings.

There were 579 opposite sex marriages in Clare last year, and six more same sex marriages too in the first full year during which same sex couples could marry in this country.

Three male couples and three more female couples tied the knot here last year, and were among the 1,000+ such ceremonies in Ireland last year.

579 heterosexual couples had their big days out here, suggesting that Clare remains a popular weddings destination.

That’s because only 397 Clare women and 386 Clare men got hitched, though most of those seem to believe Banner is best, as 334 of those weddings saw a Clare man and woman marry each other.

Three-quarters of those weddings were Catholic, while eleven widows or widowers and another 41 divorcees got married here.
