Slight Rise In Number Of Babies Born To Clare Mothers Aged Under Twenty

The number of births recorded for young mothers in Clare increased slightly at the start of this year.

New CSO figures show there were 310 births registered in the county between January and March.

The number of births registered to Clare mothers decreased marginally in the first three months of the year, from 312 between October and December 2020 to 310 in the first three months of this year.

According to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office, 20 babies were born to mothers aged over forty, compared to 34 in the previous quarter.

Two other age groups also saw a fall in registered births between January and March, compared to the previous three months, with 104 babies born to women aged between 30 and 34 and 99 to mothers aged between 35 and 39.

23 Clare mothers were aged between 20 and 24, the same figure as the previous quarter and 4 women under the age of 20 gave birth during that period, a rise of 3.

Meanwhile, 136 births were registered as outside marriage or civil partnership, with 174 married or in a civil partnership.
