The agency boasted strong jobs growth amongst its client companies earlier this month, and was also instrumental in securing last week's announcement of 100 new jobs at Element Six in Shannon.

However, Clare still flags a long way behind Limerick.

In percentage terms, the IDA recorded the strongest level of jobs growth last year in the MidWest.

The Agency says its client companies, foreign companies who invest in Ireland, created 1,500 new net jobs over the past 12 months.

However, only 55 of these were in Clare.

295 new jobs were created by FDI firms here last year, but they also reported 240 jobs losses.

In Limerick, over 1,600 jobs were created and there were fewer than 200 jobs losses.

The total number of people employed by Foreign Direct Investors in Clare stands at over 6,600 which is the sixth highest of any county in Ireland.

The race to record even higher figures here in 2017 has also gotten off to a good start with the announcement by Element Six that it's hiring 100 new workers at its base in Shannon.
