SNA cuts to be reversed

The Education Minister’s received Cabinet approval for extra resources to reverse planned cuts to special needs education from September.

A massive rise in applications for resource teaching services had meant students were facing a cut in teaching hours and parents and teachers from Clare were set to march to the Dáil tomorrow in protest.

But Ruairi Quinn’s been given permission to allocate an extra 500 teaching posts in September.

The Education Minister’s also established a working group on how to go forward with special needs education given what he says is the unsustainable increase in demand.

Lorraine Dempsey of the Special Needs Parents Association says it’s the right move and parents will be very relieved.
