Snowfalls hit countywide

 

Road users across Clare are being urged to exercise extreme caution after sudden snowfalls this morning.

There was also another heavy ground frost overnight and while the main routes have been gritted, some of the back roads are very slippery and now covered in snow.

The areas affected include Ennis Quin, Doora, Tulla, Inagh, Kilnamona, Corofin, Tubber, Gort, Ennistymon, Doolin, Kilkee, Kilrush , Miltown and Cree and many others areas.

Several roads are also reportedly very slippery including several sections on the Ennis to Ennistymon Road, the link road near Clareabbey Roundabout in Ennis, the hill at Ard Na Greine,in Ennis as well as the Quin Road to the Clare Inn and gardaí  are warning drivers to exercise extreme caution.

While there are no school closures announced in the county at the moment a number of school runs have been delayed this morning due to the unexpected snowfall.

Meanwhile Ground temperatures on the N 18 Ennis to Galway road are also among the lowest in the country at nearly minus seven

Motorists are advised to only drive when necessary.
