Solar Farm Company Planning Long Term Investment In Clare

There are hopes that the building of a series of Solar Farms in Clare will provide a significant economic boost for the county.

Terra Solar hopes to build six such facilities here, worth around 30 million euro.

The first part of the multi-million euro project would involve the construction of a 12.4 hectres facility in Ballymorris, Cratloe.

Terra Solar says a planning application will be lodged for this site with Clare County Council shortly and if that's succesful it's hoped around 60 jobs will be provided in the construction phase.

If the project comes to fruition it will be the first of its kind in Ireland, with further solar farms planned for the Shannon area.

Terra Solar's Director and co-founder Andre Fernon says his company will look for further growth in Clare and hope the company will remain in the county for the forseeable future.

Meanwhile, a Sixmilebridge Councillor says the reaction to the proposed solar farm in Ballymorris has been generally positive locally.

Independent Councillor PJ Ryan has been contact by some residents expressing concern over increased construction traffic and the potential impact on the local landscape.

However, the Cathaoirleach of Shannon Municipal District claims there will be plenty of time to scrutinise the proposals before they get the go ahead.
