A South East Clare community is in mourning following the death of a man in a tragic incident on the river Shannon on Saturday.
29 year-old Brian Whelan from Bridgetown, O'Briensbridge is one of two men who had been carrying out work on Thomond Bridge in Limerick when the security cage they were working in broke free from a crane and fell into the water, trapping them.

A third man who was working with them managed to free himself without any serious injury.
Broadford Parish Priest Fr John Bane has been telling me that the entire community is in mourning following his death.
