Spike In Overcrowding Figures At University Hospital Limerick

There’s been a surge in overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.

The INMO says 61 patients are without a bed at University Hospital Limerick this morning – 49 of those on trolleys.

It’s almost twice as much as the next busiest facility – and marks a significant jump from Friday’s figure of 48.

Meanwhile, twenty additional beds are to open at St. John’s Hospital in Limerick.

The beds there have been closed for a number of months – and a shortage of bed capacity in the local hospital system is seen as a significant contributory factor to the high levels of overcrowding at UHL.
