St. Vincent De Paul Joins Calls For Fuel Allowance Scheme Extension

The President of the Clare branch of St Vincent de Paul is urging the Department of Social Protection to offset the loss of income facing families across the county from today, as they receive their final weekly payment of the winter fuel allowance.

The scheme, which normally operates for a total of 28 weeks, began last September with the final weekly payment of €28 per household due to be paid out to recipients today.

The Fuel Allowance season was extended by an additional four weeks in April 2020 by the Government in response to the Covid 19 emergency but no such extension has been announced for recipients this year.
