It may have come as a shock to some today when Clare FM revealed that Star Wars was coming to Clare, but for locals in Kilbaha, it's their best kept secret.

Loop Head Tourism was informed some time ago that scenes would be shot there for a film called "Star Bear" and it wasn't long before the penny dropped as to which movie the producers were talking about.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is the next chapter in the epic space series, and the shooting in Loop Head is similar to other filming in Donegal, Kerry and Cork.

But the production team are keeping details of the shoot under lock and key as Cillian Murphy from Loop Head Tourism explains.

A small crowd has gathered in the area this morning in the hope of catching a glimpse of the action.

But Ailish Connolly from Kilbaha Gallery and Crafts says it's likely people will have to wait until the film comes out to see what's really going on in the area.

It's understood that the filming will take place on private land, though the exact nature of what will take place is unclear.

Clare County Council say Loop Head Lighthouse will be closed between next Tuesday and Thursday, while a no-fly zone will be in place, imposed by The Irish Aviation Authority.

It remains to be seen whether any of the series' famous actors will actually come here, but it's hoped Clare's brush with A Galaxy Far, Far away will lead to tourists from near and far visiting Loop Head in the years to come.
