Storm Desmond Update

Clare County Council has issued the following update (at 12:45 on Saturday) in relation to the ongoing storm, and resulting floods across the county's road network.in Clare.

The local authority is reporting widespread flooding of roads across County Clare as a result of ongoing heavy rainfall.

Tom Tiernan, Senior Engineer, Clare County Council said, “We are advising members of the public to avoid all travel other than when necessary while Met Éireann’s Red Alert remains in place.

“Motorists are likely to encounter flooded roads that Council crews have not yet reached or have not been reported as flooded. Motorists are advised to not attempt to drive through flooded roads.

“It is anticipated that the flooding situation on the county’s road network will worsen during the day and further updates will be issued,” added Mr. Tiernan.

The following are among the roads which are either closed to traffic or are likely to be closed due to flooding:

ENNIS AND ENVIRONS:
R474 – Between Beechpark and Inch Bridge
R474 – Between Kilmaley and Connolly
Inchmore to Woodstock
R476 – Toonagh (between Ennis and Corofin)
Ballyogan (Quin)

EAST CLARE:
R466 – Bridgetown to Broadford
R352 – The Galway side of the Scariff to Portumna road on Galway side of the border
R452 – Kilmurry village
R352 – Cloonty (Mountshannon)

WEST AND NORTH CLARE:
N85 – Between Inagh and Cullenagh
N67 at Munnia, New Quay
N67 between Ballyvaughan and Corkscrew Hill
N67 – Caherfenick (Doonbeg)
N67 – Mount Rivers (Doonbeg)
R485 -Kinlea
R483 – Between Kilrush and Cooraclare
R484 – Between Kilmihil and Knockalough
R473 – Cappagh
