35 Clare residents have been paid an average of just over 2,000 euro each to help in their recovery from this year's storms.

The government's Humanitarian Assistance Scheme, which is means-tested, is available to assist people whose homes are damaged by flooding, and who are not in a position to cover the cost of repairs.

There's no limit to the maximum amount payable, and up until last month just over 70,000 euro had been paid to 35 people here this year.

This is the third highest amount of recipients of any county in Ireland – 531 people in Limerick have received help while in total, 743,000 euro worth of payments have been made as part of the scheme.
