Stormy Conditions Hit The Country Once More

Motorists are again being asked to drive with care on Clare’s roads amid showers of rain, sleet and hail.

The conditions have seen a number of minor accidents today, including in Quilty and on the M18, and Met Eireann warns that showers will persist this afternoon.

Gardai have asked drivers to leave extra space to the car in front, particularly if they are caught in these showers, and warn that roads are wet in all areas of the county.

Elsewhere, up to 8,000 homes and businesses are without power today – following yet another night of stormy conditions.

The south of the country has been worst affected, though the ESB has reported intermittant problems in North, East and South-East Clare, as well as to the North of Ennis.

The stormy weather is also causing disruption to some ferry services. Irish Ferries has been forced to cancel some of its swift sailings today and tomorrow.
