Around 100 Aer Lingus passengers are to be bused to Dublin this morning, having spent two nights in the Shannon area as a result of a technical problem.
Approximately 500 people were affected in some way by the fault on the Airbus A330 plane which was to leave Clare’s international airport on Wednesday.
A long journey to Boston will end for around 100 people this afternoon, about 48 hours later than scheduled.
They were to leave Shannon shortly after midday on Wednesday, on the scheduled Aer Lingus flight, but that was cancelled due to what the airline describes as a technical fault.
This affected the 250 passengers due to head to Boston, and 250 more set to come back across the Atlantic on the same plane.
The passengers coming from the US were accommodated on various flights, and so were some of those leaving Ireland, who flew from Dublin, London and other airports.
However, the remainder spent both last night and the night before in the Shannon area, where they were provided with accommodation and meals. A spokesperson for Aer Lingus has told Clare FM that they will travel by road to Dublin this morning where they will fly on a scheduled service to Boston.
