SVP Struggling To Cope With Requests In Clare

St Vincent De Paul says it's struggling to cope with requests for help from people in Clare.

It comes as the Energy Regulator has suggested that the Public Service Obligation Levy be increased by 36%, which would see domestic electricity bills increase by as much as 90 euro per year.

St Vincent De Paul has made a submission to the regulator urging it to allow people on low incomes or who are struggling to pay to be exempt from the charge and a decision is due in August.

In 2014, the charity paid over ten million euro to electricity suppliers on behalf of people in arrears and John Cullinane of Clare SVP says they cannot deal with additional charges.
