Tanaiste: “No Blank Cheque” for Storm Damage in Clare

The Tanaiste has said the government doesn't have "a blank cheque" to cover the cost of extensive storm damage in Clare. 

Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore was responding to the recent statement of his Clare Deputy Michael McNamara that a bill of 36.7 million submitted by Clare County Council is unlikely to be met in full.

The Tainaiste was speaking in Ennistymon last evening as he formally opened tthe Clare Tourism Conference, and addressed the needed for coastal repairs to ensure positive results for the local tourist industry this year.

Speaking to Clare FM, Minister Gilmore insited the government will respond to the Clare application for funding soon, but wouldn't specify how much of the bill will be covered.
